Ashfield U3A Pie & Pea Supper & Quiz Night 2007

Saturday, 10th March saw our first venture into the 'Pie & Pea Supper with Quiz' evening. This proved to be a huge success, with 90 tickets sold and was held at St. Wilfrid's Church Hall, Church Street, Kirkby-in-Ashfield. Members were asked to sort themselves out into teams of around eight people.

The evening began at seven o' clock with a tasty supper of pie and peas, gravy and mint sauce, served by Pam Sapey, Dorrie Kirton, Margaret Nunn, Kathleen Jones & Colleen Green. Tea, coffee and squash were also served, whilst many took their own liquid refreshments.

Martin Rose set the questions and chaired the quiz, and was thanked afterwards for the splendid job he had done. Master of Ceremonies for the evening was Barrie Jackson with Malcolm Pullan as Doorman. At the interval, a 'heads and tails' raffle took place and was won by Joan McDonald, after an incredible run of eight heads occurred on the spin of a coin.

Each team decided upon a name before the quiz which was won by the 'Ace of Spades', consisting of members - Margaret Nunn, Dorrie Kirton, Cynthia Driscoll, Sheila Porter, Mary Carlton, Maxine Rose, Malcolm Pullan and Jill Pullan. The team won by a margin of six points, with the 'Winos' in second place. A cash prize was shared by the members of the winning team.

The committee served supper, set out tables and chairs and cleared away afterwards. Grateful thanks to everyone who helped to make the evening such a success, so much so that we are considering making it an annual event in the future.
