Ashfield U3A Pie & Pea Supper & Quiz Night 2008

Saturday, 29th March saw the return of the hugely successful 'Pie & Pea Supper with Quiz' evening, an event which had been long awaited by the members. With around 120 tickets sold, it was held this year at our regular meeting place of The Ashwood Centre in Kirkby-in-Ashfield. Members were grouped into teams of around eight people.

The ever-popular meal of pie and peas, gravy and mint sauce was served at the start by Pam Sapey and a team of willing volunteers, accompanied by bottled water, and other liquid refreshments provided by those who attended.

As last year, Martin Rose set the questions and chaired the quiz, whilst Master of Ceremonies for the evening was the Chairman, Maxine Rose, (Maxine's first event since being voted into the role at the AGM ), with Malcolm Pullan as Doorman. At the interval, a 'heads and tails' raffle took place and was won by Dorothy Adkin.

Before the quiz commenced, each team decided upon a name. The quiz which was won by 'The Lost Souls', with the 'Octopussies' in second place. Cash prizes were shared by the members of the winning team and runners-up.

During the evening, the committee and others served supper, set out tables and chairs and cleared away afterwards. Grateful thanks to everyone who helped to make the evening such a success, so much so that it looks set to be an annual event. Some photographs of the event appear below.
