Ashfield U3A Walking Group 'A'

We offer moderate walks from 7 miles to 9 miles, on the second and fourth Tuesdays
of the month.

Please do not bring dogs or children on the walks, which are over all types of terrain.
Walkers should therefore be prepared for stiles and rough ground as well as mud.
Remember that weather conditions can deteriorate very quickly, with little or no warning,
particularly on high ground, so be prepared. We walk throughout the year, so we suggest
the following items, some of which are seasonal:

  • Comfortable waterproof boots suitable for rough terrain
    TRAINERS ARE NOT SUITABLE!
  • Waterproof clothing (e.g. cagoul and overtrousers)
  • Small rucksack
  • Packed lunch plus drinks (extra drinks for very hot days)
  • Light waterproof mat or stout carrier bag (to sit on)
  • Spare bootlace (a map of the area would also be useful)
  • Small, personal first-aid kit, including crepe bandage
  • Spare pullover, woolly hat, gloves
  • Change of footwear (essential for return car journeys)

Lifts, if required, are organised at the car park, so may we suggest a voluntary donation of £4.00 by each passenger to the driver. [Please note that the amount has been increased from £3 to £4 as from 1st July 2008 to take account of the rising cost of fuel].

Should anyone have to leave the walk for whatever reason, then the walk leader must be informed for safety reasons.

After the walk, why not round off the day by enjoying a relaxing drink with everyone at a local hostelry or coffee shop?

For more details, contact the co-ordinator, Alan Radford, by telephone: 01623-427934.
Len Hill has now been appointed as deputy co-ordinator for the group: 01623-437726.

Call for Walk Leaders:

Will members who wish to lead walks please submit their walk(s), with route descriptions, proposed starting points and distances, as soon as possible. Help and guidance can be given if necessary. Any ideas for walks, or walking areas, are also welcomed from anyone who does not wish to lead a walk. All walks should be moderate or easy, but not strenuous. We usually complete the walks at approximately 3.00 pm. Also, please note new starting times as from May 2007.
