A group comprising nineteen Ashfield & Mansfield U3A members and friends left from Annesley Woodhouse
for a 2-day wine-orientated break in Dorking and London.
After a brief stop on the motorway, the coach continued on to Denbies' Vineyard in Dorking, Surrey. After a late
lunch, the party were given a tour of the winery, beginning with a 360 degree film about Denbies, before boarding
the indoor 'train' for the tour proper and arriving finally at the cellar for a talk about English wines, where several
samples were available. Afterwards, a tour of Denbies Estate to see the vineyards aboard the outdoor 'train' gave
the party the opportunity to see the expanse covered by a variety of grape types, making Denbies the largest
vineyard in Britain.
The group rounded off the tour by visiting Denbies' garden centre and wine & gift shop where a variety of plants,
wines and gifts were on sale, before departing for an overnight stay at the Mercure Hotel in Dorking, where a
leisurely 3-course meal was enjoyed in the evening.
